Let’s add snake whisperer to my CV’s
I grew up in the Seattle area of Washington state - worked hard, got married, had a family - all the normal things. Then I decided to move from the wettest place on earth, to the deserty areas near Phoenix, Arizona. I no longer live in fear of dying in a windstorm surrounded by 75’ - 100’ oak trees, or having an earthquake flatten my house with me still in it - now I live with the knowledge that everything that surrounds me wants to bite, poke or sting me. This post is about my adventures being a snake wrangler in my neighborhood.
When I moved to our current neighborhood, there were a couple of guys that would come running with a snake stick and a Home Depot bucket anytime someone encountered a rattlesnake. I found it fascinating enough to get my own snake stick last year - and practiced picking up socks and retrieving Nature Valley Granola bars from the pantry. I was now cocky enough to add my name to the list of snake wranglers in the neighborhood.
And here are the photos that go along with…

2023-05-17 - Early morning - this little guy was very sluggish…
2023-05-15 - this image is cleaned up a tad to make the snake more apparent - but the head still blends in very well
2023-04-25 - Calm little dude. Barely an inconvenience.
2022-08-06 - My very first snake!!
Then, of course, my typical snake interaction…
