Chris Deluca
US State Treasure Hunt

I used to travel for work and have visited many of the US states that way. But then family vacations entered the fray…

A long time ago, my partner and I started to collect all of the “Welcome to {state}” signs as we traveled around the country. Most of our journeys were family vacation related, but I also traveled for work quite a bit - so I would go to states she didn’t make it to - but not many.

This post is to capture the signs and current state of our adventures. I’ve now been in all 50 states and DC - Cate is just a few behind that (she is missing Alaska, Tennessee and West Virginia). Any states with the “no image” picture are states I’ve been to, but just hadn’t captured the “welcome to” sign yet. The last cell shows the overall status of our travels.

Alabama Alaska Arizona Arkansas California

Kansas Kentucky Louisiana Maine Maryland
Massachusetts Michigan Minnesota Mississippi Missouri

About Me - work

Hello! My name is Chris Deluca and this is a part of myprivate.social space!

Day to day…

Day to day I’m a developer and manager - I currently manage a very small starter team. The company I work for specializes in software for the higher education market, and we are embarking on an endeavor to create a from scratch, cloud native product for this market.

Specialties…

My main background is SQL server and .NET technologies. I spend an inordinate amount of time trying to make Oracle work like a well-oiled oily thing. I came from a Microsoft SQL background and before that I was neck deep in Sybase SQL. These days I’ll play around with just about any database technology, as they all fascinate me. The other half of my specialties is C# in .NET - I’m really loving .NET core these days and the flexibility that comes with running that on just about any platform.

About Me - leisure hours

For the leisure hours…

When I’m not doing something with technology, I’m likely studying at my local dojo, Desert Dragon’s Kenpo Karate (in the Ed Parker American Kenpo Karate lineage) where I currently am a third-degree black belt. I’m also studying Balintawak Escrima to round out my martial arts skill sets. Martial arts definitely stress a part of me that isn’t like technology - a part of me finds them relaxing and satisfying and a part of me is frustrated that my body doesn’t do the right thing unquestioningly.
